Like it's fun and competently executed but it's trying so hard to be an F-Zerolike that it never really gets out of that shadow IMO
Machines p much handle like cars with strafe buttons. Much easier than GX's absurdly complex handling model but also a lot less exciting
They've got the F-Zero-style twisty rollercoaster tracks, but without the GX grip system it never feels like gravity/road shape matters much
Boost gauge is filled by picking up Orbs on the track, and there're no shields; walls slow you down and hazards make you explode and respawn
Those factors together encourage boosting a lot more aggressively than GX does, which is fun
Also multiple boosts don't stack acceleration like they do in F-Zero; you just hold down the boost button to stay at boost speed longer
Amusingly it has what it calls "Hero" mode, which is just actual F-Zero rules: Boost & shields share one gauge; crashing ends the whole race
Perhaps unsurprisingly, it's dramatically more fun than the regular mode
