anyway Macross DYEL is... weird? It fixed the original series' disastrous pacing issues, but replaced it with new and different pacing issues lol

I dunno if it would even make sense without watching the TV show first; it blows past a ton of crucial plot stuff. It skips pretty much everything I liked about the original (p much everything about the city, the zentradi spies subplot, the comedy of the ship constantly breaking)

art/animation work is incredible tho

Like it's VERY explicit about how the ideal woman is a housewife who cooks and cleans for her husband, and while there ARE lots of women with careers and goals and stuff, they all have to learn that lesson to become Desirable

I'm glad it mostly just feels dated in 2021, but, ugh
