SKY DESERT

Gonna ramble on this a bit because it's basically one really specific idea/emotion that I've needed to get out of my head for forever
I spend a lot of time trying to get onto roofs. This is sort of an attempt to convey why. It's this really unique sense of solitude
Not loneliness, but separation. People never look up; you're effectively invisible. And they're these weird spaces that no one touches
There's this completely inhuman scale to the architectural features because it's only designed to be seen from far below
Hence sky desert. It's harsh and minimalistic, but quiet and pure and there's nothing between you and the sky
You can see other buildings but they're islands. No way across to them. Again, solitude and calmness
So yeah. People fear heights and taking another person with you is a different experience anyway, so a painting's the best way to convey it.
(oh also concrete lit from beneath by reflected sunlight is one of my favorite aesthetic things so this is also kind of an homage to that)
